The availability is still limited, but in about 2-3 weeks the season of the white gold will be in full swing. Until the end of June we can enjoy the queen of vegetables.

This variety starts out green and matures to a chocolaty brown color on the outside, deep red on the inside. Its flavor is sweet.
Varieties of white peppers start out white, and turn pale yellow. They have a mild sweet flavor.
Generally purple is a mature pepper color, although some varieties may be purple in the unripe stage. Purple capsicums are green on the inside and are quite sweet. Purple capsicums are best to used raw, since it will lose it's color when heatened.

The sweet, juicy Nam Dok Mai mango is a relative of the ordinary mango. It is also known as the “golden mango”. This mango contains large quantities of vitamin C. The fruit has an attractive “S” shape, a creamy yellow skin and soft yellow flesh. This fruit has a much flatter stone than the ordinary mango and is a true taste sensation. The flesh is soft, juicy and sweet and, unlike ordinary mangoes, is not fibrous. Nam Dok Mai has a slight honey fragrance and tastes like a very sweet mango.

They look like huge lemons, are rather plumpish and humpy and have an intensely tart pulp and a surprisingly fragrant and delicious outer white layer and bright yellow skin. They are are often used for making candied lemon peel.
The spongy, thick soft white pith is also delicious eaten raw or cooked. In Iran it is used to make jam; in Pakistan it is made into pickles and the Southern Indians use it for preserves. Koreans make into tea as a remedy for hangovers, coughs and indigestion and in Italy, the pith is thinly shaved and eaten raw in salads or used as a topping for bruschetta. Since the Renaissance, the oils from the skin have also been used in perfumery and cosmetics due to their delicate and fragrant scent.
Pineapple strawberries have a pale, soft color, but the small red seeds gives this berry their extra punch. The juicy fruit smells delightful and combine the fresh taste of pineapple and the sweet of strawberry. In short: the best of both world.
This ruby red berry is in fact the original small strawberry as we remember them from the past. The appearance and taste of the strassberry reminds of raspberries. Delicious to eat out of hand, but are also very decorative in culinary dishes.
Discover this tasty little round zucchini, also known as 8 ball Zucchini (you can probably see why) is similar to its longer brother. The color and flavour are identical. The root of a member of the mustard family. Radishes have a peppery flavour and a crisp, crunchy texture. Radishes are rich in folic acid and potassium and are a good source of vitamin B6, magnesium, riboflavin, and calcium.
Of course we are all familair with radishes, but have you ever seen these tiny radishes? They can be a true delight on your plate, since they don't have to be cut. The mini radishes come in 3 types: white, pink and breakfast-radish. They are all harvested by a family business which has been growing radishes for over 30 years and are among the best producers of The Netherlands. The radishes are harvested by hand so the radish doesn't get damaged and remains beautifully green and fresh.
Finger limes are a type of tiny citrus native to Australia. Their name comes from the fact that they are about the size and shape of a finger and both the peel and the pulp come in a rainbow of colors. The pulp of most citrus fruit looks like elongated teardrops, but finger lime’s vesicles are tiny little balls, fruit caviar that holds its shape until the beads burst in your mouth.
Top oysters, scallops, or sushi (any seafood really) with finger lime pulp. Treat your vegetarian friends to nigiri sushi with avocado or papaya and a flourish of finger lime pulp. Take cocktails to the next level; try them in a finger lime mojito or an elderflower gin fizz, or even a basic gin and tonic.
Top off a fruit salad with a sprinkling of finger lime pulp -- just leave out any other citrus to let the finger limes be the star of the show. Watermelon Radishes are sometimes compared to Cinderella: If Cinderella were a vegetable, she'd be a Watermelon Radish. Like Cinderella before her transformation, the exterior of a watermelon radish isn't all that nice. But open it, and all is magic: the interior of this root vegetable practically sparkles with hot pink, turning heads as it suddenly appears as the belle of the ball!
The watermelon radish doesn't actually taste like watermelon. Instead, the flesh, which is green around the exterior with a deep pink to bright red center, has quite a resemblance to normal radishes.
Watermelon radishes are larger than regular radishes and can range from the size of a golfball to that of a softball. They're firm and crisp with a mild taste that's a blend of slightly peppery and slightly sweet.

A bright green leaf with intense blood-red veins running through the whole leaf. The texture is velvet like and crispy. The lemony taste of Red Vein Sorrel makes a great addition to salads. They can also be cooked like spinach and used in soups, sauces and risottos. Heating sorrel dulls the taste a little, so you can afford to be more generous with the leaves if you are going to cook them.
Sorrel is one of those leafy greens (like spinach) whose culinary values depend in good part on their oxalic-acid content which is what gives them their distinctive slightly sour flavour.
These shiny little berries grow low on bushes, hanging from the branches like rows of miniature gems. Their flavour is a little tart but they're still sweet enough to be eaten raw, so long as they're sprinkled with plenty of sugar. They have a high vitamin C content, and go well with both other berries and fruits, such as raspberries, strawberries and melon, as well as goose, venison and lamb. They can also be frosted with egg white and caster sugar and used as a decoration for puddings or cocktails.
Wash, then, holding the stalk over a bowl, grip it at one end and sweep a fork down its length, making sure that the stalk runs between the fork's tines - all the berries should pop off. If you like, you can also remove the little brown tip at the base of each berry (just pinch it off between thumb and forefinger) but it's a labour-intensive job and doesn't make a huge difference to the flavour. Poach (4 minutes, or until just starting to burst). Sprinkle with sugar and serve with cream. Use to make sauces, syrups and jams. Add to the fruit mix for summer pudding; use to make mousse or sorbets.

The yellow and white carrots taste less sweet and contain less fiber than the orange carrot. That makes these roots really suitable for soups and warmers. The purple carrot is packed with flavour and is sweeter than the orange, especially the Purple Haze (orange outside, purple inside).
Beautiful and colourful beetroots with a strong taste. The earthy flavour combined with a slightly sweet taste creates many unique applications in various dishes. Highly decorative because of their beautiful colours! They are also delicious when eaten raw in salads or thinly cut as a carpaccio.
Parsley roots can be sliced or cubed and prepared as a cooked vegetable in the same way as carrots, celery roots, parsnips and turnips. The roots become tender in about five minutes, but the flavour is not reduced by lengthy cooking. Use parsley root in soups or stews, combined with carrots, potatoes, turnips, onions or meat.
Sweet in flavour and robust in feel. They stretch much further than being simply roasted in chunks. Like their relative carrots, they can be used in sweet dishes and brunch recipes, plus they deserve to take centre stage as the star component of a main course.

Ice Plant or Ice Lettuce is a beautiful little plant! Glittering crystals on the leaves as if they are dew droplets. Young, crispy tender leaves have a slightly sour and salty taste and its pleasing to the eye. Ice Plant can be cooked like spinach or purslane, but ismainly used in soups and raw in salads or sushi. This vegetable a true surprise on the table!

Mashua are small tubers which can be eaten raw or cooked. Raw mashua has a very strong and peppery mustard flavor, like a very sharp radish. The strong taste is due to the high content of isothiocyanates. Thinly sliced it can be used to spice up a salad.
Most of the time mashua is stewed or baked like a potato or Jerusalem artichoke. Cooking eliminates the cyanide and improves the taste. Because once the tuber is heated, it gets a pleasant, slightly sweet anise flavor. Mashua is also widely used for soups and purees.
French Mashua is now available at BE Fresh in 3kg boxes from the famous Prince de Bretagne brand.
So many different edible mushrooms, so many different flavours. Those that can be picked in the wild, as well as cultivated mushrooms that are generally sold as buttons, cups or flats according to age. Large flat (Portobello) mushrooms have more flavour than young buttons, and chestnut mushrooms tend to have a slightly stronger taste and firmer, meatier texture than ordinary white ones.

Guanabana is often used for dessert. Guanabana ice cream and fruit bars are also very popular. The white interior pulp is studded with many large seeds, and pockets of soft flesh are bounded by fibrous membranes. The seeds are commonly not eaten.
Guanabana is known to have medicinal qualities, with claims across the world that guanabana extract can slow the spread of cancer or make traditional cancer therapies work better. Guanabana is also applied to the skin for arthritis. Although it is unsure if there's real scientific evidence for this matter, it's safe to say: Guanabana is super healthy!
We provide Guanabana from Ecuador and Colombia, which are known for their good quality. The 'spikes' of their skins are being cut off to prevent them from breaking off, which often causes damage to this sensitive fruit.

Stone fruit contains a single kernel that is encased in a shell and surrounded by fragrant pulp. It is usually thin-skinned and the flesh turns softer and more juicy the riper the fruit becomes.
Always wash stone fruit before eating. Stone fruit can be used whole or cut in half and the stone removed. The inner kernel of apricot stones can be simmered with the fruit when poaching to add an almond flavour.
In some dishes, the skin of stone fruit is also removed, such as with poached peaches or nectarines. However, since the skin adds a beautiful colour to the poaching liquid, it is usually not removed until after the fruit is cooked.
Some varieties of plums have a high pectin content, they make excellent jam; apricots, greengages and other plum varieties have a medium pectin content, so need lemon juice to help them set; peaches, nectarines and cherries have a low pectin content and need extra pectin or other pectin-rich fruit to set.
Now available at BE Fresh: Spanish stone fruit! European stone fruit is well known for its outstanding taste and beautiful appearance.
Lollo Bionda (green) and Lollo Rosso (red) are terms used referring to the fancy lettuce with tight curly leaves, otherwise known as coral lettuce. The leaves are produced loosely in a whole head, are tender in taste, with a slight bitterness.
These very decorative lettuce types add a punch of colour, texture and volume to salads. The curled leaves also have a practical function as they increase the surface area enabling salad dressings to be caught up in the leaf and not to the bottom of your salad bowl.
The oak leaf lettuce is named because of the shape of the leaves, resembling an oak tree. Normally green but also available in red varieties. They have a sweet, tender taste to them, with somewhat of a velvety texture.
Often grown as a whole head, sometimes in hydroponics where the roots are still attached and is also the cut leaves come in pre-packaged salad mixes. This decorative lettuce is often mixed with other lettuce to create contrast, various textures and colours in salads.
The Amalfi Coast in Italy is famous for its beautiful and very special lemons. Big, juicy, fragrant lemons that are bursting with flavour and used in hundreds of recipes fom Limoncello to lemon risotto to cakes, sorbets and granitas. Amalfi lemons have a protected geographical indication (IGP) and are the traditionally used lemons for the famous Italian liqueur Limoncello because of their edible skin. The lemons are completely natural and untreated.
The Amalfi lemons are more fragrant, more juicy and less bitter than normal lemons. All the more reason to get to know this unique lemon!
Some say it has the taste of pineapple, bananas, vanilla, pear or even strawberries with cream! Whatever it is: it's delicious. It is commonly used in smoothies and ice creams, added to fruit salads or even used as a mousse or pie filling.
This juicy, delicious and creamy fruit resembles custard apple with its green outer skin consisting of overlapping scales and custardy flesh with several black seeds. The only difference is that it is much smoother on the outside, has comparatively lesser seeds and more flesh and is somewhat sweeter in taste. In fact, it is a variety of custard apple.
The seeds and skin are inedible as they are toxic. Howver, this fruit finds its place amongst the healthiest fruits with its high nutrition, particularly vitamin C and antioxidants.
A fresh pointed pepper is a crisp and juicy fruit that will fit many dishes excellently whether used raw, boiled, grilled or baked. Because of the straight shape the point pepper is more than suitable for stuffing. How about roast, stuffed pepper with a dressing of yellow pointed pepper?
Pointed peppers are an exception to the traditional spicy flavor of peppers. Pointed peppers are sweeter than bell peppers. To guarantee the unique, sweet character of the pointed peppers, our grower regularly performs independent tests. For example, the natural sugar, the Brix, is measured. Where most peppers give a value between 3 and 7, Pointed Peppers have a Brix value of less than 8 - 10. In addition, the sweet pointed peppers are very healthy, they have a vitamin C content which is equal to four oranges, they also contain a lot of folic acid and 0% fat.
Contrary to what most people think, the pineberry is one of the oldest strawberry varieties in the world. In ancient times the strawberries were white in South America and red in North America. When these two varieties met in Europe and spontaneously crossed, they created the basis of our red strawberries, the Fragaria x Ananassa.
Growers continue to focus on breeding a red strawberry and this resulted in many red varieties we have in stores nowadays. The white strawberry from the original crossing was almost forgotten. Almost...

The green Shishito, which originally comes from Japan, has a solid, savory taste. The name refers to the fact that the tip of the chili pepper looks like the head of a lion. Ok, with a little imagination...
Jalapeño chillies range from moderately to very hot. Originating from South America, they taste like bell peppers, yet more spicy. Available in red, green, purple and yellow.
The Red Chile is probably the most famous chilli worldwide. This chilli has a mild to hot taste which you can use in any dish.

Cherry Bombs are bright red and 'cherry' shaped chillies. The chilli pods have thick fleshy walls which makes them ideal for chunky salsas as well as for pickling or roasting in the oven stuffed with cheese & herbs.
A pretty chile, also known as Guero, with mild heat and slight sweetness. It works well either cooked or fresh for salads, salsas, and other dishes based on chile peppers.
French breakfast radishes are long, rosy-colored radishes tipped with white at the root end. But why do we call them 'breakfast' radish? The exact reason is unclear. Their name has nothing to do with the French (or any other country) having them for breakfast. The origin of its name most likely lies in the fact that the Victorians liked to eat them with their breakfast- or afternoon tea. The Victorians considered these radishes as French, because of the fact that French adore them. They became known as those nice 'French' radishes that you ate while you were sipping your English breakfast tea.
Breakfast radishes are known for their crisp texture and mild to delicate sweet flavor.

A great alternative for regular green asparagus are baby asparagus, also known as asparagus tips. These young, thin asparagus have a delicate, slightly bitter and herbal taste. The size also makes them ideal to combine with haricot verts and mangetouts.

The kiwiberries are back at BE Fresh! Our favourite berry is sweet, smooth and delicious!
The kiwiberry is a small variety of the well known larger kiwifruit. It is a naturally grown berry, about the size of a grape.
It makes a great garnish for cocktails, a healthy topping for yoghurt and a spectacular ingredient for salads.
However, the best way to get to know a kiwiberry is by eating it as a snack. This crazy fruit can be eaten skin and all. No peeling!

Beautiful, crispy kale baby leaves packed in flow packed punnets for a long shelf life. This innovative product is available as super healthy green kale and the immemorial black kale (cavallo nero).
Baby leaves can be a fresh surprise on the plate of the consumer. Kale like you have never seen or tasted it before! These convenient leaves can be used in a traditional Dutch hotchpot or wok pan. But can also be eaten raw in salads or in an omelete, or try a crispy kale chips recipe!
This striking fruit, with its deep purple skin and vibrant deep pink flesh, is a wonderful addition to the christmas table. Figs have a naturally high sugar content, making them an ideal match for equally intense ingredients, such as salty prosciutto, goat- or blue cheese and nuts. Combine them with peppery leaves such as rocket or watercress.
